Want to know what an orgasm is?

Personally, for me, it's indescribable, which is why I think people keep craving them. I've had mild ones and mind-bending one; ones that lasted a few seconds, and ones that keep rolling on with stimulation for what seems like hours. One thing is for sure.

The Gods made orgasms to encourage us humans to have sex and reproduce.
Orgasm is the sudden discharge of accumulated sexual tension resulting in rhythmic muscular contractions in the pelvic region that produce intensely pleasurable sensations followed by rapid relaxation. Orgasm is also in part a psychological experience of pleasure and abandon, when the mind is focused solely on the personal experience. It is sometimes called climaxing or coming.

In Masters and Johnson's original research of the human sexual response cycle, orgasm is the third of four stages, occurring after the plateau phase and before the resolution phase. Another widely accepted model of the sexual response cycle, developed by Helen Singer Kaplan, M.D., PhD., involves just three stages: desire, excitement and orgasm.

Orgasms vary from person to person and for each individual at different times. Sometimes orgasm is an explosive, amazing rush of sensations, while others are milder, subtler, and less intense. The differences in intensity of orgasms can be attributed to physical factors, such as fatigue and length of time since last orgasm, as well as to a wide range of psychosocial factors, including mood, relation to partner, activity, expectations, and feelings about the experience

Orgasm A Total Body Response There are several physiological components of orgasm. First, orgasm is a total body response, not just a pelvic event. Brain wave patterns have shown distinct changes during orgasm, and muscles in many different areas of the body contract during this phase of sexual response. Some people experience the involuntary contraction of facial muscles resulting in what looks like a grimace or an expression of discomfort or displeasure, but it is actually an indication of high sexual arousal.

The most characteristic physical feature of orgasm is the sensation produced by the simultaneous rhythmic contractions of the pubococcygeus muscle (pc muscle). Along with contractions of the anal sphincter, rectum and perineum, the uterus and outer third of the vagina (the orgasmic platform) for women, and the ejaculatory ducts and muscles around the penis for men, this constitutes the reflex of orgasm.

The first few contractions are intense and close together, occurring at about 0.8-second intervals. As orgasm continues, the contractions diminish in intensity and duration and occur at less frequent intervals.
Orgasm Differences Between Men and Women Despite the anatomical differences between male and female genitals, orgasms in men and women are physiologically and psychologically, or subjectively, very similar.

In fact, studies have been done in which "experts" could not reliably determine gender when reading descriptions of orgasms with all anatomical references removed.

Women have described the sensations of orgasm as beginning with a sense of suspension, quickly followed by an intensely pleasurable feeling that usually begins at the clitoris and spreads throughout the pelvis. The genitals are often described as becoming warm, electric or tingly, and these physical sensations usually spread through some portion of the body. Most women also feel muscle contractions in their vagina or lower pelvis, often described as "pelvic throbbing".

The subjective feeling of orgasm in men has been described quite consistently as beginning with the sensation of deep warmth or pressure that corresponds to ejaculatory inevitability, the point when ejaculation cannot be stopped. It is then felt as sharp, intensely pleasurable contractions involving the pc muscles, anal sphincter, rectum, perineum and genitals. Some men describe this part as a sensation of pumping. Finally, a warm rush of fluid or a shooting sensation describes the actual process of semen travelling through the urethra during ejaculation.

It is important to note that orgasm and ejaculation are not one in the same event. Although they typically occur together, a man may have an orgasm without ejaculating.

A major difference between the female and the male orgasmic phase is that far more women than men have the physical capability to have one or more additional orgasms within a short time without dropping below the plateau of sexual arousal.

Being multi-orgasmic depends on both continued stimulation and sexual interest. Because neither of these is present every time for most women, multiple orgasms do not occur with every sexual encounter.

On the other hand, upon ejaculation, men enter a recovery phase called the refractory period. During this time, further orgasm or ejaculation is physiologically impossible. However, some men can learn to have an orgasm without ejaculating, thereby making it possible to experience multiple orgasms.

But TV has become Michael Jackson television, and here in LA, they have closed major roads and arteries to accommodate the press and fans. This is getting more coverage than 911. Will a star the magnitude of Mick Jagger get this when he dies? I think not. John Lennon didn't and he was MURDERED.

The problem is television and this 24-7 need for if it bleeds, it leads. Go to BBC News, they have other stories about the world at large. But when the US press gets a story they can chew to death, the gnaw at it. He was a great talent, but even Michael would think enough is enough. And wait for all the custody, drug questions, and will arguments to start. This is as tedious as OJ became to his jury.

Some bands hum with the energy of their locale, encapsulating the mood and character of their surroundings in their assemblage of notes. Like X in the '80s and Tom Petty in the '90s, Rilo Kiley are undeniably denizens of Los Angeles, the snarl of freeways and paparazzi nights fueling their increasingly polished pop.

Their second major label release, Under The Blacklight (released August 21 on Warner Bros.), shimmers like the Turtle Wax buffed hood of a convertible rolling down Sunset Boulevard on a Summer night. Sounding like Stevie Nicks jamming with Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me-era Cure, almost 10 years into their story the once indie-rock darlings have grown into an unapologetically populist unit that hits a universal vibe with almost unnerving accuracy.

"[L.A.] is a world unlike almost any other orange trees in the desert, so much asphalt and freeways, the proximity to the ocean and mountains," says lead singer Jenny Lewis. "We are an L.A. band in that we tend to write and rehearse in our hometown. This record is the first of ours to be recorded in a studio here in L.A.; so, I guess the ghost of the twelve-string guitar lingers. Also, Jackson Browne plays guitar on a song on Under The Blacklight about Los Angeles."

Dig a bit below the surface of their new album and the sweaty, dangerous, pheromone rich SoCal Guns N' Roses once tapped into so effectively emerges. The video for the first single, "The Moneymaker," starts with a Q & A with actual porn stars before breaking into what looks like a performance in an adult bookstore, featuring said porn stars pawing each other while girlish-voiced Lewis pouts and preens along with the barely legal starlets. Like Steely Dan's late '70s output, Rilo Kiley's latest gets their pinky stinky in some strange places. For example, the oddly compelling statutory ode "15" tells us:

Rilo Kiley gets a fair amount of press coverage these days, with cover stories, large features and a significant presence in the U.K. music rags. The recent cover of the "Hot 100" issue of Blender announced "Sexytime With Rilo Kiley." Inside, they declare Lewis has become "a sex symbol to a legion of lust-deprived indie-rock fanboys." So, what's the price of fame?

Experts say the rising social networking star could be making hay off 'virtual currency' in 140Mafia but Twitter hasn't cashed in -- yet.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- A new Mafia video game has presented Twitter with an offer, but it's one that Twitter thinks it can refuse.

On Tuesday, a Twitter-based game called "140 Mafia" became the first to use "virtual currency" on the social networking site, providing a money-making platform that experts believe could fuel Twitter's success.

Designed by a company called Super Rewards, the virtual currency lets users pay for game-playing advantages. For instance, in the popular role-playing game "140 Mafia," players will now be able to visit a character named the Godfather to buy virtual health, money and ammunition with their real credit cards or bank accounts.

Although most virtual currency users pay $15 to $20 per transaction, some have paid thousands of dollars playing the original Facebook version, "Mob Wars," which debuted in March 2008, and immensely popular "Mafia Wars" sequel.

Super Rewards Chief Executive Jason Bailey said his company is currently on track to make close to $100 million in revenue this year through the games' success on Facebook and MySpace, as well as iPhone applications.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for Twitter, and they can make a ton of money" said Bailey.

Apple (AAPL, Fortune 500) takes a cut of its app sales. Social networks like Facebook and NewsCorp's (NWS, Fortune 500) MySpace use an advertising model to generate revenue -- driving up site traffic as gamers use more and more virtual currency.

Facebook began selling "Facebook credits" that game players can use for virtual currency, but many analysts say they came too late to the table to be successful.

Bailey believes that Twitter, which is new to the virtual currency frontier, could lay down Apple-like ground rules for future games and make a killing off of it.

But, he added that, "Twitter seems content to not make money. It's all about eyeballs with them."

They're getting those eyeballs. Twitter is by far the fastest-growing social networking Web site. The site attracted 18.2 million unique visits last month, up 1,448% from a year ago, according to the latest data from Nielsen. Average time spent on the site increased 175% during that same time period.

Excitement about Twitter has grown rapidly in the past few weeks, as the social network has gotten a lot of free press amid its role in broadcasting the post-election Iranian protests. Iran's tight restrictions on outside news coverage of the protests have led the global media to turn to protesters' 140-character "tweets" to find out what is happening on the ground.

Next Google or Craigslist? Twitter continues to turn down opportunities to make money off of its popular Web site. It has no advertising. It allows third-party developers to use the social network's platform to make games and applications, but it doesn't charge those companies a fee. And it doesn't seem interested in revenue sharing with virtual currency companies either.

Many analysts believe that the company taking a Google-like path, generating millions of users as it figures out its business model. Google, which some believe is a prime candidate to buy Twitter, was popular for many years before it figured out the key to online advertising.

"Twitter absolutely wants to have a long-term sustainable business once they find their business model," said Ray Valdes, social network analyst at Gartner.

Others wonder if Twitter is becoming the Craigslist of social networks. Craigslist is an online classified Web site that famously does not monetize its business.

"I don't know who puts hippies in charge of these companies," said Bailey, who noted that he has begun making far more money with Twitter than Twitter itself.

Twitter not budging. Twitter appears to be content where it is.

Though the company declined to comment for this story, co-founder Biz Stone has previously said publicly that Twitter does not need to generate revenue for the time-being, since it has still yet to blow through the more than $50 billion it has raised from venture capitalists.

"They are passing by the pennies on the path for the real dollars further down the road," said Valdes. "As long as they provide opportunities for others to have an ongoing engagement with Twitter users, they can monetize later."

Valdes said Twitter is getting buyout offers from several companies for close to $1 billion. But he does not believe Twitter is interested in selling quite yet. Instead, Valdes said Twitter will likely take advantage of its unique position in the social networking world, as a kind of live-updating news service for millions of followers, as highlighted by the Iran protests.

Experts are mixed on how the company's business model will eventually pan out, but most say virtual currency and charging users to follow certain content could likely be a part of that.

"Twitter is a new kind of broadcasting, with millions of people listening in real time on their cell phones and computers," said Valdes. "There's money to be made on all sides of Twitter interactions."

Despite the pictures above, and the pathological nature of someone who tells reporters he only had a nose job, he seems to be one of the sweetest, most considerate people and friend a celebrity of his stature could be. And I think when we deal with the children thing, he was a child, and he told a story of sleeping next to his brother when his brother was having sex with several different women. She talks about being bitter, about how frustrating it is not to reach the cash machine, how she is treated with less respect than other porn stars because she’s a midget.

The one thing she is not is a victim. Bridget invented herself from whole cloth, and is damn proud of what she’s accomplished.
“I’m a multi-media entertainer,” she says, smoothing down her stomach, and enhancing her already thick make-up. “I’m a radio personality, TV host, singer, wrestler and adult performer. Sometimes people just refer to me as the sexy pretty midget and that’s fine, because I get the role, whether it’s Playboy or the Andy Dick Show.”

Bridget isn’t lying about her talents and ambitions. She is one of the more mainstreamed porn stars, having made appearances on Howard Stern and Maury Povich, on the Roseanne Show, Talk Soup, The Playboy Channel, and VH1 All Access among others, both in the US and in the United Kingdom. She’s appeared in Esquire. On her well-designed and up-to-the-minute website, she sells her own line of clothing, DVDs and videos, the chance to win a date with her, free hard and soft core photos as well as a sample of her new music CD, Blackout.

All that work is done in addition to appearing in 40 porn films over the last three years---“the most any dwarf, little person, midget, whatever you want to call me, ever has”. Starting out as a circus performer, sword swallower and such, appearing at numerous Renaissance Fairs, she learned early on how to make her own way in life.

Bridget was “discovered” at the age of 19 by a gay porn make-up man while dancing in a Goth nightclub. Her first porn video was Goth, and that lifestyle continues to this day. Glamourcon: The Young, The Old, and The Relentless

Mikey and I attended this convention, thinking it was what it advertised: the most beautiful nude models in the world that we could book

Fleiss has been engaged in the past to singer Frank Sinatra Jr. and also actor Tom Sizemore, who was charged with her assault and then convicted.

Meanwhile, Fleiss' notorious history pales in comparison to the current Hollywood escort scandal involving Michelle Braun, said to have supplied the most expensive call girls in the world. Britain's Daily Mail said she makes Fleiss “look like Mary Poppins.”

Braun’s call girl operation had a list of clients that reportedly included top celebs, politicians and big-business names, according to The Herald Sun.

Most of her 70 girls were models, actresses or Playboy centerfolds, their "company" going for $50,000, while Fleiss girls were said to be priced at about $10,000 nightly. Even adjusting for inflation, that's quite a hefty difference in fees.

Braun's lawyer told the New York Daily News if the names of her clients were revealed, many would be shocked.

Though many well-known names have appeared in news accounts about Braun — she traveled in Hollywood circles and knew the rich and famous — none has so far been identified as a client.

Braun’s business reportedly brought in more than $8 million, and she charged men $1,600 just to become members of the club and look at pictures of girls for hire on her website.

The only thing that stood out as slightly off-key about this event, and to a certain degree San Francisco in general, at least in our humble opinion, was the conceit of the public relations people that attendees at a Sex Event wanted Panels of Second-Rate Pundits ranting and raving about Politics. Or, as best said by the guy that walked out of the dwindling audience----an audience which was full when porn stars were on stage, showing off nude tits and ass: “Stop Whining!” Perfect.

Now, what does all this have to do with orgasms? Nothing. But I will address the subject now, and it is an important one. All through my life, I have had a problem, just like most of the women who won’t admit it. It was hard work to come and come well, let alone more than once. By now, we obviously have learned and heard a lot about how women become Porn Stars in the increasingly competitive adult industry. It’s both easier and harder than you think.

Certainly, it’s not comparable to becoming a movie star or a rock star---that’s equivalent to winning the Powerball lottery for $250 million. These days, mainstream stardom has less to do with talent than with some divine force placing you in the exact right place at the perfect time, and you following up by shamelessly exploiting yourself in every way possible.

In the old days of the Adult Industry, it certainly was easer to make your mark. You could walk into Jim South’s World Modeling Agency in Sherman Oaks on Van Nuys in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. If you were young, reasonably attractive, and an exhibitionist, he’d take a Polaroid of you posing naked and mark it in red pencil with little codes concerning which sex acts you would perform (girl-girl, boy-girl, oral, etc.). Within a few hours, you would be working.

Can I act at all?
Do I show up on time?
Am I distracted by boyfriends, drugs, or other problems?
Does the camera like me?
Am I attractive, and if not, can I make myself attractive, through make-up and/or plastic surgery?
Is my body hot? If not, am I willing and able to undergo the surgical procedures and continuous exercise routines necessary to get and keep that outstanding body?
Can I take rejection?
Am I young enough to start a career in this biz (18-28max)?
Do I realize that by choosing this career, I will probably never be elected to the Senate? That these videos will follow me for the rest of my life?
Do I WANT to do this, or am I punishing my parents, or some other authority figure?
Can I dance, or learn to dance, in order to maximize my earnings by tours of top strip clubs?

I think you can figure out the right answers to these questions. But you need to find out the truth. First, have a friend take some photographs, and see how they come out. Do you look animated, alive, sexual, charismatic, or do you look bored and bland?

Most photographers today in the Adult Business complain that while the older porn stars like Annie Sprinkle might not have been beautiful, they truly were Stars, full of enthusiasm and loved by the camera. Located in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles, this locale, even with the new Global players, produces over ninety percent of the world’s porn.
The girls pile in, some pretending to be eighteen and are shepherded without kindness into a cold room next door where the bookers, Dan and Fred Latchman, take digital photos of them naked. Once clothed again, although much of the apparel they wear when they come in is minimal, they’re asked which sex acts they are willing to perform. The photos are e-mailed to certain producers, and then the spiciest, legal chicklets are off to the first booking. Work is not hard to find these days, especially if you have a fresh face and a young body.
And if you’re willing to do girl-girl, girl-boy, anal, double penetration, fucking machines, bondage, the whole gambit, you can work 15 to 20 times a week. The big prize is becoming popular enough through the cheap and better class videos (which usually pay anywhere from $300-$1200, excluding the top stars who can make a lot more), to become a headlined stripper, pulling in $15,000 a week In Kansas or Oregon or New York, dancing her tight little ass off.
There is not much to say about the Latchman’s, since they don’t figure much into the story or into the secrets I will share. Suffice it to say that they are Father and Son, each weighing about 200 pounds, and are polite enough. Father Dan started his career as a Sheriff in a small Texas town and through the two interviews I did with him for my web site, never once explained how he got from A to X.

In gonzo, the voice behind the camera would tell the girl or girls or girl and boy what to do and then ask them questions about it. Most of the motels in the Valley made a steady living from being faux sound stages for these quickies.
On the walls of the Latchman’s booking office were posters of the highest grossing pictures from Vivid, Wicked, LoveLock, and other large-scale producers, partly because one of the Latchman girls did a short blowjob scene in it. But this gave the impression that they represented the Porn Stars, and the naïve newbies who came in were awed.
Celeste stood out from the other girls waiting on the worn couches for a variety of reasons. First, she came with no one. With the onset on the Internet, adult film companies like Vivid and Wicked displayed heavily altered beauties though the wonders of Photoshop, in increasingly naughty poses. On the other end, new forms arose such as Vintage Porn, much of which wasn’t true vintage but courtesy of photo-altering again. That was a turn back to the good old days but raunchier. MetArt exhibited the most gorgeous girls you could imagine, but started off veiling them in lingerie and coy poses. Then there were the out and out nasty filth sites, where anything was permissible.

With the Australian Abby Winters, and other sites like it, people gave up the airbrushed girls for amateurs, sweeties you could see next door in their undies or nude. Then there were the rank amateurs: swinging sites, gangbang sites, college girls in their dorms with webcams, and any other variation of regular people you might imagine. Streaming videos, sex programs, sex radio, you name it---they all got their chance at the big leagues before people moved on to cell phones, and their own video cameras at porn conventions.

Currently in trend, and wearing out its cyclical welcome, are “artistic” photographers shooting everything from nature pictures to well-composed raunch making it hard to distinguish between porn and art. Even the venerable MetArt has gone a lot harder, shedding the clothing and showing us everything a man or woman needs to see.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the cycle that produced Anime: big-breasted doe-eyed chicks who were mainly Japanese cartoons. That gave rise to CGI images, soft and eventually hardcore drawings done with Poseur programs or in the rare case of talent, freehand. Pin-up posters became big again; Bette Page was everywhere.

So what does this say about people’s changing interest in porn? I believe it says that porn is now as legitimate a category as motion pictures or novels, where gothic novels are in one season, action pictures and spy novels the next, romance films and books, then horror in books and film. Porn is becoming a category that every young person has grown up with, and they are longer satisfied with one click of the cycle. Did I forget to mention Goth? That was another huge swing in porn, and is now getting to the point where one more girl with a pin through her nose or a tattoo on her navel is too much. Biker porn, PWT porn, Latin porn, Black porn, Asian porn, Literary Porn, Art porn: they’ve all had their cycles. Even furries, depicting half-animals having sex with each other.

I expect that as porn evolves even more, new types of photographing, shooting, and presenting it will appear, with nothing but the site or filmmaker’s imagination to find its bounds. And the minute those hits on the website, or sales at the box office, decline, Barely Legal will shift to MILF’s and back again.

The point is that people are stimulated by pornography, no matter how much the archconservatives would like to deny it. Now that they have a choice in what to peruse, they gobble up as much as they can of a given type and then move on to something more exciting. Even fetishes are not locked in any more; recent books have found that people in their twenties’ like to try out different types, from BDSM to furry parties to making their own videos with friends and family. Some find what they like on the first try, others move on, still others treasure several different fetishes.

The secret to why male organisms evolve faster than their female counterparts comes down to this: Males are simple creatures.
In nearly all species, males seem to ramp up glitzier garbs, more graceful dance moves and more melodic warbles in a never-ending vie to woo the best mates.
Called sexual selection, the result is typically a showy male and a plain-Jane female. Evolution speeds along in the males compared to females.

The idea that males evolve more quickly than females has been around since 19th century biologist Charles Darwin observed the majesty of a peacock's tail feather in comparison with those of the drab peahen.
How and why males exist in evolutionary overdrive despite carrying essentially the same genes as females has long puzzled scientists.
New research on fruit flies, detailed online last week in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, finds males have fewer genetic obstacles to prevent them from responding quickly to selection pressures in their environments.
"It's because males are simpler," said lead author Marta Wayne, a zoologist at the University of Florida in Gainesville. "The mode of inheritance in males involves simpler genetic architecture that does not include as many interactions between genes as could be involved in female inheritance."
The finding could also shed light on why diseases show up differently in men and women.
Complicated chromosomes
Wayne and her colleagues examined more than 8,500 genes shared by both sexes of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster.
Of those genes, about 7,600 have different expressions (alleles) that do different jobs in males and females.
The flies were identical genetically, except for their sex chromosomes.
In flies and humans, thousands of genes made up of DNA are packaged into tiny units called chromosomes.
Each parent contributes one set of 23 chromosomes to offspring, resulting in little ones with 23 father-given chromosomes and 23 mother-chromosomes — 46 total.
One pair of these is called the sex chromosome. In this case, the females have two X chromosomes (XX); males have one female and one male chromosome, or XY.
Many genes are found on the X chromosome, whereas few are associated with the Y chromosome.
For female fruit flies, the X-chromosome genes can come in two alleles that not only interact with each other but also with other genes.
For instance, if one allele is dominant over the other, that allele would get "expressed" while the recessive allele would stay hidden.
Though undercover, the recessive allele kind of hitches a ride on the X chromosome and can be passed on to future generations.
Genetic simpletons
That's not the case with males.
"We find direct evidence that the expression of the genes on the X has this covering behavior in females whereas in males they're out in the open," said study team member Lauren McIntyre, also of UF.
Males only have one X chromosome, so what you see is what you get.
If that particular gene gives the male a boost in terms of sexual selection, say a gene responsible for fluffier feathers, the gene would be selected for in the game of natural selection over successive generations.
But if the gene is no good for males, it would get selected against over time.
"Having one X means your genes are more open to selection in males," UF researcher Marina Telonis-Scott said in a telephone interview. "So in a female if you have a recessive allele that confers a sickness, it can be concealed within the two X's but if you've only got one, such as the male, you're more open to selection."
The reason males are genetic simpletons, it turns out, is sex.
The researchers suggest this uncomplicated (compared with females) genetic pathway allows males to respond at the drop of a hat to the pressures of sexual selection.
That way they can win females, produce more offspring and start the cycle over again.
While not as prominent a trend, they also found a similar pattern in so-called autosomal genes, which are those found on any chromosome save the sex chromosomes.
Many of the fruit-fly autosomal genes, however, did work in concert with genes located on the X chromosome.
Human implications
The "elephant lurking in these results," of course, is how they would apply to men and women.
The researchers caution the results don't directly translate to humans.
"The X function is thought to be quite different in flies than humans," McIntyre told LiveScience.
In humans, one of the X chromosomes gets inactivated in females, though research is finding this inactivation isn't always absolute.
However, the results could help explain differences in symptoms and responses to diseases in men and women, the authors say.
Sexual selection does occur in humans, they note.
In addition, fruit flies and humans share an evolutionary history, the authors point out, which is the reason why we share more than 65 percent of our genes with the tiny insects.
"If we see a mechanism in flies it may also be true in everything that shares that evolutionary history," McIntyre said.
On a basic level, the genetic machinery works in a similar manner in flies and us.
"There's a health aspect in figuring out differences in gene expression between the sexes," Wayne said. "To make a male or a female, even in a fly, it's all about turning things on — either in different places or different amounts or at different times — because we all basically have the same starting set of genes."

“I didn’t vote for him,” an American once said, “But he’s my president, and I hope he does a good job.”
That—on this eve of the 4th of July—is the essence of this democracy, in 17 words. And that is what President Bush threw away yesterday in commuting the sentence of Lewis “Scooter” Libby.
The man who said those 17 words—improbably enough—was the actor John Wayne. And Wayne, an ultra-conservative, said them, when he learned of the hair’s-breadth election of John F. Kennedy instead of his personal favorite, Richard Nixon in 1960.
“I didn’t vote for him but he’s my president, and I hope he does a good job.”
The sentiment was doubtlessly expressed earlier, but there is something especially appropriate about hearing it, now, in Wayne’s voice: The crisp matter-of-fact acknowledgement that we have survived, even though for nearly two centuries now, our Commander-in-Chief has also served, simultaneously, as the head of one political party and often the scourge of all others.
We as citizens must, at some point, ignore a president’s partisanship. Not that we may prosper as a nation, not that we may achieve, not that we may lead the world—but merely that we may function.
But just as essential to the seventeen words of John Wayne, is an implicit trust—a sacred trust: That the president for whom so many did not vote, can in turn suspend his political self long enough, and for matters imperative enough, to conduct himself solely for the benefit of the entire Republic.
Our generation’s willingness to state “we didn’t vote for him, but he’s our president, and we hope he does a good job,” was tested in the crucible of history, and earlier than most.
And in circumstances more tragic and threatening. And we did that with which history tasked us.
We enveloped our President in 2001.And those who did not believe he should have been elected—indeed those who did not believe he had been elected—willingly lowered their voices and assented to the sacred oath of non-partisanship.
And George W. Bush took our assent, and re-configured it, and honed it, and shaped it to a razor-sharp point and stabbed this nation in the back with it.
Were there any remaining lingering doubt otherwise, or any remaining lingering hope, it ended yesterday when Mr. Bush commuted the prison sentence of one of his own staffers.
Did so even before the appeals process was complete; did so without as much as a courtesy consultation with the Department of Justice; did so despite what James Madison—at the Constitutional Convention—said about impeaching any president who pardoned or sheltered those who had committed crimes “advised by” that president; did so without the slightest concern that even the most detached of citizens must look at the chain of events and wonder: To what degree was Mr. Libby told: break the law however you wish—the President will keep you out of prison?
In that moment, Mr. Bush, you broke that fundamental com-pact between yourself and the majority of this nation’s citizens—the ones who did not cast votes for you. In that moment, Mr. Bush, you ceased to be the President of the United States. In that moment, Mr. Bush, you became merely the President of a rabid and irresponsible corner of the Republican Party. And this is too important a time, Sir, to have a commander-in-chief who puts party over nation.

This has been, of course, the gathering legacy of this Administration. Few of its decisions have escaped the stain of politics. The extraordinary Karl Rove has spoken of “a permanent Republican majority,” as if such a thing—or a permanent Democratic majority—is not antithetical to that upon which rests: our country, our history, our revolution, our freedoms.
Yet our Democracy has survived shrewder men than Karl Rove. And it has survived the frequent stain of politics upon the fabric of government. But this administration, with ever-increasing insistence and almost theocratic zealotry, has turned that stain into a massive oil spill.
The protection of the environment is turned over to those of one political party, who will financially benefit from the rape of the environment. The protections of the Constitution are turned over to those of one political party, who believe those protections unnecessary and extravagant and quaint.

The enforcement of the laws is turned over to those of one political party, who will swear beforehand that they will not enforce those laws. The choice between war and peace is turned over to those of one political party, who stand to gain vast wealth by ensuring that there is never peace, but only war.
And now, when just one cooked book gets corrected by an honest auditor, when just one trampling of the inherent and inviolable fairness of government is rejected by an impartial judge, when just one wild-eyed partisan is stopped by the figure of blind justice, this President decides that he, and not the law, must prevail.
I accuse you, Mr. Bush, of lying this country into war.
I accuse you of fabricating in the minds of your own people, a false implied link between Saddam Hussein and 9/11.
I accuse you of firing the generals who told you that the plans for Iraq were disastrously insufficient.
I accuse you of causing in Iraq the needless deaths of 3,586 of our brothers and sons, and sisters and daughters, and friends and neighbors.
I accuse you of subverting the Constitution, not in some misguided but sincerely-motivated struggle to combat terrorists, but to stifle dissent.

I accuse you of handing part of this Republic over to a Vice President who is without conscience, and letting him run roughshod over it.
And I accuse you now, Mr. Bush, of giving, through that Vice President, carte blanche to Mr. Libby, to help defame Ambassador Joseph Wilson by any means necessary, to lie to Grand Juries and Special Counsel and before a court, in order to protect the mechanisms and particulars of that defamation, with your guarantee that Libby would never see prison, and, in so doing, as Ambassador Wilson himself phrased it here last night, of becoming an accessory to the obstruction of justice.
When President Nixon ordered the firing of the Watergate special prosecutor Archibald Cox during the infamous “Saturday Night Massacre” on October 20th, 1973, Cox initially responded tersely, and ominously.
“Whether ours shall be a government of laws and not of men, is now for Congress, and ultimately, the American people.”
President Nixon did not understand how he had crystallized the issue of Watergate for the American people.

It had been about the obscure meaning behind an attempt to break in to a rival party’s headquarters; and the labyrinthine effort to cover-up that break-in and the related crimes.
And in one night, Nixon transformed it.
Watergate—instantaneously—became a simpler issue: a President overruling the inexorable march of the law of insisting—in a way that resonated viscerally with millions who had not previously understood - that he was the law.
Not the Constitution. Not the Congress. Not the Courts. Just him.
Just - Mr. Bush - as you did, yesterday.
The twists and turns of Plame-Gate, of your precise and intricate lies that sent us into this bottomless pit of Iraq; your lies upon the lies to discredit Joe Wilson; your lies upon the lies upon the lies to throw the sand at the “referee” of Prosecutor Fitzgerald’s analogy. These are complex and often painful to follow, and too much, perhaps, for the average citizen.
But when other citizens render a verdict against your man, Mr. Bush—and then you spit in the faces of those jurors and that judge and the judges who were yet to hear the appeal—the average citizen understands that, Sir.
It’s the fixed ballgame and the rigged casino and the pre-arranged lottery all rolled into one—and it stinks. And they know it.

Nixon’s mistake, the last and most fatal of them, the firing of Archibald Cox, was enough to cost him the presidency. And in the end, even Richard Nixon could say he could not put this nation through an impeachment.
It was far too late for it to matter then, but as the decades unfold, that single final gesture of non-partisanship, of acknowledged responsibility not to self, not to party, not to “base,” but to country, echoes loudly into history. Even Richard Nixon knew it was time to resign
Would that you could say that, Mr. Bush. And that you could say it for Mr. Cheney. You both crossed the Rubicon yesterday. Which one of you chose the route, no longer matters. Which is the ventriloquist, and which the dummy, is irrelevant.
But that you have twisted the machinery of government into nothing more than a tawdry machine of politics, is the only fact that remains relevant.
It is nearly July 4th, Mr. Bush, the commemoration of the moment we Americans decided that rather than live under a King who made up the laws, or erased them, or ignored them—or commuted the sentences of those rightly convicted under them—we would force our independence, and regain our sacred freedoms.
We of this time—and our leaders in Congress, of both parties—must now live up to those standards which echo through our history: Pressure, negotiate, impeach—get you, Mr. Bush, and Mr. Cheney, two men who are now perilous to our Democracy, away from its helm.
For you, Mr. Bush, and for Mr. Cheney, there is a lesser task. You need merely achieve a very low threshold indeed. Display just that iota of patriotism which Richard Nixon showed, on August 9th, 1974.
Resign.
And give us someone—anyone—about whom all of us might yet be able to quote John Wayne, and say, “I didn’t vote for him, but he’s my president, and I hope he does a good job.”

Susan's Party Goes Mainstream with A Yawn

I once told Mikey that the problem with this society, especially in the arts, was that it had of late been “Botoxed,” rather than repressed. Newsmen like MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann tells jokes in between stories of Iraqi causalities; American Idol has just crowned Jordan Sparks the best, and from my 20 years in the music business, I feel justified calling her an overweight Holiday Inn Karaoke Singer.

Endless edited footage of ass-scratching reality has replaced the heightened reality of scripted drama on T.V. Books are written by Dr. Phil instead of William Faulkner.
I could go on ad nauseum. But the problem is simple: Fear. Creativity is risk and risk is extreme, not tailored to the lowest common denominator for greedy bucks.

I saw that same sad Botox-ing last Saturday Night at Dr. Susan Block’s cavernous, totally original 20,000+ square foot loft on Saturday night. The week before she had been written up in L.A. Weekly for those almost illegal sexual hi-kinks the place is known for among the people who pass it on, some secret knowledge whispered in the Industry.

I remember the first time Penny Antine (who wrote the porn classic “The Devil in Miss Jones,” and many other award-winning hardcore films under the pseudonym Raven Touchstone) brought myself and a statuesque Black woman named Carol to Susan Block’s museum of The Naughty. We were both speechless. Penny wasn’t, she was an old friend and her entrancing erotic photographs taken on porn sets were a small part of the art that adorned every inch of the place.

It sure wasn’t heaven, and it felt too good for Hell, but one thing was obvious: The sexual circus had come to town. Susan was holding court and doing a live T.V. show on an outrageous circular pink bed filled with hundreds of sacred and profane artifacts, dressed like an 18th century New Orleans hooker, and holding a snake.

Maybe fifteen or more photographers and cameramen from places as diverse as La Brea to The Ukraine and U.K. couldn’t get close enough. Beautiful men and women came (literally) on the bed as guests, eventually lapsing into an orgy of sucking, squirting, and you can’t imagine what else. No drugs, though. Female Amazonian Sexual Power was the theme here; Mikey told me he often felt intimidated. I felt empowered and wet.

Susan’s place, as mentioned, is also a huge art museum with excellent work and some ancient sculptures; it has a TV studio, dressing rooms as large as bedrooms and an endless wardrobe closet. I was a fairly recent L.A. transplant that first night and felt as though I had found the secret womb of the Pagans.

Of course, a lot of this overall musky atmosphere had to do with the audience. Porn stars, wannbe Porn Stars, Glorious Gender Illusionists, Pony Girls and Guys, all mingling and exchanging cards/cell numbers. You never left without making a friend, a contact, seeing something out of X-Files (or the XXX Files) while Susan masturbated herself and others and her husband ranted up to a fevered pitch about George Bush.

That was then, as they say. This is Now. The dreaded Botox virus invaded this Electric Circus. Because last week, the mainstream found out about Suzie’s; L.A. Weekly recommended the spot, and the place transformed from OZ back to Kansas, from passionate color to Geek-ish black and white.

Susan spoke a bit but not much happened---and to give her due credit, she has spent the last year recovering from a very serious illness. Gone were the porn stars, though, except for some skinny girls in cheap see-through dresses. Gone was that glorious Fall of Rome decadence vibrating through the air. Instead, there were a lot of--- yes, I’ll say it
--- guys who couldn’t get laid in a whorehouse wearing regular work clothes; one or two of them must have bought a leather vest from HSN and decided this was the night to “get funky.”

Everyone was told to “SHUT UP!” during taping, at a volume akin to the one they used to shoot “Star Wars.” Reverie and madness were gone; people stared at glasses, or stood, all waiting for something to happen.

I sat on a sofa after interviewing people about why they were there (tales of rotten divorces, a timid drag queen badly made-up and about seven feet tall on her first foray out as a woman). It was that dull party where you wonder if you can leave after a half hour, or ask someone to call you on the cell phone with an emergency to escape bondage---and not the good kind.

Mikey agreed, and was at a loss about what to shoot. Usually, between Annie Body squirting while being bitten by a snake, and Avy Lee Roth eating out her lead singer, he would be frantically darting around with his cameras. You could get 100 pictures from the crowd. I think he got one.

Of course, Mikey and I are grateful for Susan’s help and kindness through the years and wish her well. Actually, I hope the “hip mainstream” goes away and the carnival freaks (like myself) return. Because Yale-educated, and respected Dr. Suze without true Porn is like those soft-core movies on TV: the directing, acting, writing, and lighting are substandard, and they cut out the screwing scenes except for the faces pretending orgasm. They might do the trick for the much, much younger in 2007, but not for anyone legal and erotic.

And think, if the Democrats get elected, it could get even worse! A little repression is good for the passionate rebel. A lot is even better. Who had to drink poison? Socrates, right? Galileo? And remember the sad end of the Marquis de Sade. Be careful what you pray for, porn fans, because you’ll end up with nada. I can sense it within my drying vagina.

Okay, so it was a lousy TV watching night, I saw all the predictable thrillers I could stand, no one was eating worms or roadkill on Fear Factor (my favorite part--other than Flavor Flav---of "reality" TV, because it really sinks so low it is an art form, a la Ed Wood). So, as I turned the remote, able to recite the dialogue on every episode of every incarnation of Law and Order, I eventually was stuck with Tyra Banks. I had never seen a whole show. I've been under the weather for a few weeks, so I apologize for not getting back to you. A lot of things have happened in the world since then, so I'll start with the most significant.

I could not explain this any better than Dennis Miller has below, although he was a great liberal commentator who had some odd mid-life crisis, turned into Rush Limbaugh without the meds, and is now not sure who he is. But that could be said of us all, although we don't get paid a lot of dough (not even gas money!) for being so screwed up most of the time. But his comments here--- as that Gigantic Asshole Bill O-Reilly would say---are pithy :
For those who don't know or care about any of this, suffice it to say that Dennis Miller is a comedian
who has a show called Dennis Miller Live on HBO.
He is not Jewish.

He recently said the following about the Mid-east situation:

The Palestinians want their own country.

you actually have to figure out some way to make a living.

That's no fun. No, they want what all the other
Jew-Haters in the region want: Israel.

about the great history and culture of the Muslim Midleast.
Unless I'm missing something, the Arabs haven't given anything to the
world since Algebra, and, by the way, thanks a hell of a lot for that
one.

Chew this around & spit it out: 500 million Arabs; 5 million Jews.
Think of all the Arab countries as a football field,
and Israel as a pack of matches sitting in the middle of it.
And now these same folks swear that, if Israel gives them
half of that pack of matches, everyone will be pals..

Really? Wow, what neat news. Hey, but what about the string of wars to
obliterate the tiny country and the constant din
of rabid blood oaths to drive every Jew into the sea?
Oh, that? We were just kidding.

Or dancing for joy at the murder of innocents? Impossible.
Or spreading and believing horrible lies about the Arabs baking their
bread with the blood of children? Disgusting.

No, as you know, left to themselves in a world of peace,
the worst Jews would ever do to people is debate them to death.

Mr. Bush, God bless him, is walking a tightrope. I understand that,
with vital operations in Iraq and others, it's in our interest, as
Americans, to try to stabilize our Arab allies as much as possible,
and, after all, that can't be much harder than stabilizing a roomful of
super models who've just had their drugs taken away.

However, in any big-picture strategy, there's always a danger
of losing moral weight. We've already lost some.
After September 11th, our president told us and the world he was going
to root out all terrorists and the countries that supported them.
Beautiful.
Then the Israelis, after months and months of having the equivalent of
an Oklahoma City every week (and then every day),
start to do the same thing we did, and we tell them to show restraint.

If America were being attacked with an Oklahoma City every day,
we would all very shortly be screaming for the administration
to just be done with it and kill everything south of the Mediterranean
and east of the Jordan.

Study: Sexual Desire is in Your Genes

Your sexual desire or lack thereof could be in your genes, scientists announced today. The discovery might change how psychologists view sexuality.

The researchers found that individual differences in human sexual desire can be attributed to genetic variations. The study is the first to provide data to show that common variations in the sequence of DNA impact on sexual desire, arousal and function, the researchers said.

The scientists, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, examined the DNA of 148 healthy male and female university students and compared the results with questionnaires asking for the students' self-descriptions of their sexual desire, arousal and sexual function. They found a correlation between variants in a gene called the D4 receptor and the students' self-reports on sexuality.

The results suggest that low sexual desire might be a normal biological condition rather than a psychological problem, the researchers say. Further, it might be possible to develop drugs to alter sexual desire based on the new findings.

The research was led by Richard Ebstein and was published in the online version of the journal Molecular Psychiatry.
